Superscript, Subscript, and Strikethrough

Word places text on a baseline. If you want to place text higher than the baseline, use the Superscript button. If you want to place text lower than the baseline, use the Subscript button. If you want to strike through text, use the Strikethrough button.

Superscript

  1. Select the text you want to set in superscript. Word highlights the text.
  2. Click the Superscript button superscript in the Font group. Word changes the text to superscript.
  3. Click in the text area. The highlighting disappears.

Subscript

  1. Select the text you want to set in subscript. Word highlights the text.
  2. Click the Subscript button subscript in the Font group. Word changes the text to subscript.
  3. Click in the text area. The highlighting disappears.

Strikethrough

  1. Select the text you want to strikethrough. Word highlights the text.
  2. Click the Strikethrough button strikethrough in the Font group. Word strikes through the text.
  3. Click in the text area. The highlighting disappears.
