Lesson 1: Introduction to Word

Hello, my name is Sharlie Douglass. Welcome to my Microsoft Word 2013 tutorial. My aim is to take you step-by-step through the process of learning Microsoft Word.

Microsoft Word is a word processing software package. You can use it to write letters, reports, essays, journals, and other documents that contain text and images. Word does not come with all computers; you may have to purchase it. You can buy it online or purchase it from any store that sells software. To purchase online, search for Microsoft Word, Office 2013, or Office 365. You can buy Word alone or as part of the Office 2013 suite of products. If you purchase Word as part of a suite, you get Word along with other software such as Microsoft Excel. Alternatively, you can pay for a monthly subscription and obtain access to Word through Office 365.

In this lesson, I will explain the Word window, the Ribbon, contextual tabs, and views. In addition, I will show you how to issue commands, including those commands you issue through Backstage view, such as opening a document, closing a document, and saving a document.
